MADOSINI

Madosini Manqina Latozi was born in Umtata, in a village called Mqhekezweni in the Eastern Cape. Madosini was influenced by her mother, who was also an expert in the playing and making of musical instruments. Since being known in the whole of Mpondoland as the greatest musician of the time, news went as far as Johannesburg and a search for her was launched. After a few years, one of her nephews who went to the mines as a migrant worker came back after his contract expired. He told her that he had heard one of her songs being played in a music shop in the heart of Johannesburg. Again in the mid-eighties one of her songs, Nozimanga (Uthando Luphelile), was used as a backing on the then Radio Xhosa drama series, Aah Nasizwe! Being illiterate and lacking the means, Madosini never pursued the matter. Her only hope was that time would tell. Great sounds, songs, times and memories are recalled when Madosini is giving a bit of the story of her life. She would say to you in Utando Luphelile "My son ! Love has disappeared nowadays since money became the living thing. Modernism has taken us by surprise. Go anywhere in the world and you will find that people are hopeless, there is no self-reliance. People would just go past you without even saying hello. What is life then ? There is total destruction of mother nature through the lack of communication, in short no love.
